Eyesore set for Bungalow development

The site of the former community centre at Anthorn Rd is set to be developed if plans submitted to Wigan Council receive the go ahead.

The development will feature 20 bungalows for over-55s or those with long term health needs. This will be a welcome addition to the area and bring back into use a site which has been vacant for a number of years.

The Winstanley site is one of three sites set to benefit from a £14 million investment. The other sites are located in Hindley and Orrell.

There is a shortage of this type of accommodation in the local area and given the setting new residents of the bungalows will benefit from a location close to amenities and public transport.

Veterans' Lunch

A Veterans' Lunch was held at St Judes Social Club, Worsley Mesnes on Saturday, 18th March.

Hosted by Cllr Clive Morgan and Cllr Lynne Holland, veterans from across the Winstanley and Worsley Mesnes tucked into a buffet lunch and tackled a military themed quiz.

Cllr Clive Morgan, a veteran of the 1982 Falkland’s War conflict said, “Many veterans risked their all while serving in the military, but sometimes they don't get the recognition they deserve for their sacrifices. This luncheon is to show our appreciation to our veterans and recognize their sacrifice and service.

The event was funded by Wigan Council via The Brighter Borough Fund. Lunch was provided by Carr Lane Foods.

Great Britain Spring Clean

It may be cold but that didn't deter a sping clean litter pick this morning as part of the Great Britain Spring Clean.

Clive, Marie and Paul were out in force collecting over 8 sacks of rubbish along the footpath leading from Marus Bridge Primary School to Sainsbury's Supermarket.

We undertake litter picks on a regular basis so if you would like to get involved and can spare just 1 hour let us know and we will send you details of the next event.

Let's work together to keep Winstanley a clean place to live!
