The scheme is another important phase of a multi- million pound link from the M6 through to Westwood and the Town Centre. The final phase will be the A49 link road to Westwood from the recently constructed roundabout situated at Little Lane.
The existing roundabout at Warrington Road / Highfield Grange Avenue /Poolstock Lane is to be removed and changed into a 4 way traffic signalled junction. Works which started on 27 July 2015 consist of new kerbs, footways, surfacing, landscaping, drainage and upgrading street lighting.
Ground investigation works on the A49 Link Road Scheme around the Tippings Arms area are now complete.
Cllr Paul Kenny said, "The contractor has begun construction of the new carriageway and islands and laying service ducts in preparation for the future installation of lighting columns and traffic signals.
"Over the coming weeks they will continue to work on this area and with lane widening works to both the North and South carriageway areas. In addition, they will start to excavate for the lane widening in Highfield Grange Avenue on Monday 7 September 2015 and on Monday 14 September 2015 the school crossing patrols will be moved along Warrington Rd towards Clapgate Lane,
outside the works area."
"Lane closures will continue to be implemented during off peak periods only in order to minimise disruption to traffic and keep it flowing as freely as possible whilst the works are carried out."
