New estate needs bus service

A new bus link connecting the recently expanded new housing estates in Winstanley is needed say your Local Labour Team.

Over a decade of house building is now at completion as the Persimmon Homes ‘Bluebell Wood’ development awaits the arrival of new home owners.

Holmes House Ave and Tan House Drive are now connected at the Bluebell Wood site providing a link road of over a mile in length from the Poacher Pub to the mini-roundabout junction near St Aidans Social Centre.

Cllrs Clive Morgan and Paul Kenny have lobbied Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) to provide a bus service that diverts along this new route providing a service for local residents who currently face a long walk to the nearest bus stop.

Cllr Clive Morgan said, “We think it will be popular with people to be able catch a bus within reasonable walking distance giving them access to Wigan and the wider local area.”

“At present people face a long walk to the nearest bus stop from many parts of the new estate and I am pleased that following our request TfGM are in talks with a bus operator.”

Cllr Paul Kenny has received confirmation from TfGM that they are in discussion with a bus operator to provide a commercial service and that potential locations for bus stops are being scouted.
