Mother, Wife, Nanna and Community Champion unveiled as Labour’s by-election candidate

Marie Morgan
Labour’s candidate in the Winstanley Ward By-election on Thursday, 24th October has today been confirmed as Marie Morgan. The by-election follows the sad death of Cllr Rona Winkworth who served the ward with distinction.

Marie is 51 and is married to Cllr Clive Morgan. She has 3 adult children and is a Goose Green resident of over 40 years standing.

Marie works in Customer Service for RBS and previously worked at The Tote and is well known for her volunteering work in the community over many years with local mums & tots groups, Scouting, veterans’ organisations, Summer and Christmas Fetes including the popular 'Carols round the Christmas Tree' at St Matthews' Parish Hall, Highfield.

Marie is also a strong supporter of local sporting groups, and is the
current secretary of Goose Green Cricket Club.

Marie said, “I am delighted to have received the backing of local Labour Party members, but the hard work starts now!”

“Families and pensioners across Winstanley are facing a cost of living crisis. They are working harder for less, year after year. David Cameron stands up for a privileged few, not for ordinary working people.”

“The by-election is an opportunity to send a message to this out of touch Tory-Lib Dem Government.”

Secretary of Makerfield Labour Party and Winstanley Ward Councillor, Paul Kenny said, “With a background of service to our local area, it's no wonder that Marie was the overwhelming choice of local Labour Party members to be our candidate.”

“We have every confidence that Marie will be a formidable candidate and as a resident of over 40 years standing, she is well known and understands the people and communities of the Winstanley Ward.”
